Title: "Christmas Fern on Ice"
Notes: This piece features Polystichum acrostichoides, commonly known as the Christmas Fern, a resilient evergreen species that thrives in clumps along the mountainside behind our cabin. The fern's delicate fronds were pressed into watercolor paper using a traditional hammering technique, capturing the intricate vein patterns. To enhance the natural imprint, I outlined the edges with a fine-tip ink pen, layering multiple shades of watercolor to create depth and vibrancy. While the artwork beautifully conveys the fern's texture and form, it is impossible to capture the sensory experience of its creation—the crisp scent of clean air, the damp forest floor, and the whisper of crystalline snow coming down during the hammering process (on the bench in the woodshed).
Materials: This is an original mixed media work created with watercolor paint and gel pens. The work was completed on 140# cold-press watercolor paper and sealed with a clear coat of moisture resistant, UV blocking, acrylic spray. Care has been taken to accurately photograph the work, though colors may vary slightly in different lights. Each painting is matted using a white, acid free mat and backing board, and sealed in plastic so that it is protected until you are ready to select a frame.
Shipping: All pieces are properly packaged, insured, and shipped via USPS from Mars Hill, North Carolina. You can expect your painting to arrive in 5-7 business days from the date of your purchase.
